Factors Affecting The Precision of High-Temperature Alloy Capillary Tubes

Factors Affecting the Precision of High-Temperature Alloy Capillary Tubes

High-temperature alloy capillary tubes are widely used in aerospace, energy, chemical engineering, and other fields due to their excellent performance in harsh environments such as high temperatures and high pressures. For products requiring such high precision, their accuracy is directly related to the performance and reliability of relevant equipment. Through long-term production practice, Zhongxing Nickel Alloy has summarized that the precision of high-temperature alloy capillary tubes is jointly affected by multiple factors.

Raw Material Factors

Uniformity of Material Composition: High-temperature alloys are composed of multiple alloying elements, such as nickel, chromium, and molybdenum. If the distribution of each element in the raw material is uneven, the deformation characteristics of different parts will vary during processing. Taking a batch of nickel-based high-temperature alloy as an example, due to the local segregation of molybdenum during smelting, the regions with high molybdenum content had higher hardness and were difficult to deform during the drawing process into capillary tubes. This led to irregular changes in the tube diameter of the capillary tubes, making it difficult to meet the dimensional accuracy requirements.

Material Purity: The presence of impurity elements cannot be ignored either. Even a very small amount of impurities such as sulfur and phosphorus may reduce the plasticity and toughness of the material, causing defects such as cracks and peeling on the surface of capillary tubes during processing, thereby affecting precision. For instance, in the production of capillary tubes for medical equipment that have extremely high surface quality requirements, tiny defects caused by impurities may result in the scrapping of an entire batch of products.

Dimensional Precision of Tube Blanks: As the starting material for capillary tube processing, the dimensional precision of the tube blank is the foundation for subsequent precision control. If the outer diameter and wall thickness tolerances of the tube blank are large, subsequent processing procedures require greater dimensional correction, which undoubtedly increases processing difficulty and makes it hard to ensure the high precision of the final capillary tubes. For example, when the wall thickness deviation of the tube blank exceeds ±0.05mm, it is difficult to control the wall thickness precision of the capillary tube within ±0.01mm after multiple drawing processes.

Processing Technology Factors

Drawing Process Parameters: Drawing speed, drawing force, and mold lubrication are key parameters of the drawing process. Excessively high drawing speed prevents the material from deforming uniformly, easily causing "bamboo joint-like" defects in the capillary tubes and affecting the uniformity of the tube diameter. Unstable drawing force leads to dimensional fluctuations in the capillary tubes along the length direction. Poor mold lubrication not only increases friction, causing scratches on the surface of the capillary tubes but also affects material flow and reduces dimensional precision. In actual production, controlling the drawing speed within an appropriate range and ensuring constant drawing force can effectively improve the precision of capillary tubes.

Heat Treatment Process: Heat treatment has a significant impact on the structure and performance of high-temperature alloys, which in turn is related to the precision of capillary tubes. Improper control of annealing temperature and time may lead to coarse or uneven material grains, causing deformation of the capillary tubes during subsequent processing or use. For example, when a batch of high-temperature alloy capillary tubes underwent solution treatment at a low temperature for an insufficient duration, the internal structure of the alloy was not fully homogenized. After subsequent drawing, the capillary tubes showed obvious bending deformation, and the straightness failed to meet the requirements.

Precision of Processing Equipment: Advanced and high-precision processing equipment is the hardware foundation for ensuring the precision of capillary tubes. High-precision equipment such as drawing machines and tube rolling machines have high-precision and stable transmission systems, which can control various parameters in the processing process more accurately. On the contrary, aged equipment with reduced precision—such as roll wear causing roundness deviation—will be directly reflected in the dimensional and shape precision of the capillary tubes, leading to problems such as tube diameter deviation and excessive ovality.

Environmental and Human Factors

Temperature and Humidity of the Processing Environment: Changes in temperature and humidity affect both materials and equipment. Processing in a high-temperature environment causes significant thermal expansion of the material; if real-time compensation for processing dimensions is not performed, dimensional deviation of the capillary tubes will occur. High humidity may cause oxidation on the material surface, affecting processing performance and surface quality, and indirectly impacting precision. For example, in high-temperature workshops in summer, if effective temperature control measures are not adopted, the dimensional deviation of capillary tubes is approximately 20% higher than that in a normal temperature environment.

Skill Level of Operators: The experience and skills of operators are crucial for controlling the production process. Skilled workers can adjust processing parameters in a timely manner according to material characteristics and equipment status and respond to unexpected situations. In contrast, new operators may set parameters unreasonably or be unskilled in equipment operation, resulting in unstable product precision.

The precision of high-temperature alloy capillary tubes is comprehensively affected by raw materials, processing technology, environment, and human factors. Only by strictly controlling each link and optimizing the production process can capillary tube manufacturers produce high-precision high-temperature alloy capillary tubes and meet the market demand for high-quality products.
